Dear parents,
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our Lantern Festival. It was a lovely evening, and we were blessed with great weather all day. All week long, the children had been praying for no rain on Friday. Their prayers were answered, and how happy they were!
Our preparation began early in July when the children started crafting their lanterns. After the teachers selected the children’s paintings to be made into lanterns, the children began tracing and cutting out shapes of suns, moons, and stars. In a way, they were counting down the days until they could proudly show off their lanterns to their parents. Watching the children’s enthusiasm while making their lanterns was an uplifting experience.
A few days before the event, the children made small lanterns to hang around the garden. They love doing this so much that many of them asked to make more than the two that were required.
On the day of the Lantern Festival, the children gathered in the dining hall to roll dango together. They happily chatted with each other, showing off their perfectly round dango. Next, they were given the small lanterns they had made to hang around the car porch. They scattered around, trying to find the perfect spot for their little lanterns.
For lunch, we enjoyed curry rice prepared by Auntie Janet and Teacher Lily. After lunch, the children took turns putting plastic covers on the chairs to protect the legs from damage and dirt. When the big children finished with their own chairs, they quickly went to help the younger children with theirs. It was both lovely and heartwarming to see.
In the evening, the garden came alive with the colorful lanterns, setting a festive mood. The children’s chairs were arranged in a circle, with the parents’ chairs placed in a bigger circle. We were finally ready for the Lantern Festival!
We were glad all the children arrived on time in the evening. They did their best to perform even in front of the big crowd. Some children were a little nervous, but most of them did very well! It was very lovely to have everyone, including the siblings, mothers, and fathers, joining us in our Bon dance!
A note of appreciation to all the parents who brought their own cutlery and plates for snack time. Thank you for doing your part to protect our environment! Did you enjoy the food? We had Auntie Janet’s bee hoon, cake, watermelon, and, of course, the dango prepared by the children.
After snack time, the children’s handmade lanterns were lit with candles. The children happily crowded around their lanterns, eagerly waiting to start the lantern walk. Did you enjoy the lantern walk with the children singing our Lantern Song? They had been practicing the song every day in preparation for the event. Thank you to all the parents who helped ensure the children’s safety. We hope you and your family enjoyed the evening as much as we did.
There will be a slight change in the schedule for our September and October festivals. We will celebrate Mooncake Festival on Friday, September 13, instead of Friday, September 27. The Harvest Festival, originally scheduled for Friday, October 11, will now be celebrated on Friday, October 4. Parents are invited to join us on the Harvest Festival!
A kind reminder to parents: if you haven’t already done so this year, please send a new toothbrush for your child to use when they brush their teeth after lunch. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
